چکیده
Mountain rangelands are critical resources for mobile pastoralists, and they provide benefits to humankind broadly. Yet mountain pastoral social–ecological systems (SESs) face challenges that affect both mountains rangelands. Herders' traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) underpins their adaptive strategies serves as a resource future adaptation. This holistic case study of Ilemchane transhumant herders in Morocco's High Atlas Mountains applies simple framework explore how herders' biophysical TEK, practices, institutions interrelate climate social changes the SES. Using participant observation, interviews, surveys, we find climate, plant, shape practices institutions, which turn reinforce or alter TEK. Building on recent synthesis SES, identify paradox remoteness, wherein remoteness maintains culture TEK threatens it. Overcoming this may require internal organization, collective action, external support.

Rediscovery of Traditional Ecological Knowledge as Adaptive Management
Indigenous groups offer alternative knowledge and perspectives based on their own locally developed practices of resource use. We surveyed the international literature to focus on the role of Traditional Ecological Knowledge in monitoring, responding to, and managing ecosystem processes and functions, with special attention to ecological resilience. Case studies revealed that there exists a div...
متن کاملEcological Strategies and Knowledge Mapping
In this paper we discuss the concept of ecological strategy in relation to cognitive artefacts that reflect the expressive power of learners engaged in the development of significant knowledge paths. Our experiments show that learners strive to make sense of the fragmentary information surrounding them and in this endeavour they may benefit from the creation of knowledge maps, i.e. branched str...
